Race Report – ST GABRIELS P.S
Thursday 14th September 2007

With beautiful weather and this run being the last of the Winter Championship races, 60 runners and 4 walkers fronted up to run the 5.01km course at St Gabriel’s Primary School. For some it was a hit out before the King of the Mountain on Sunday, and for others it was to see if their times had improved from July when they race the course last time.
First over the line was Andrew Legge who ran 23.06. Further back was Chris Johnson 24.43, and Anne Johnson who crossed the line in the same time. In fourth place was Steve Zyhajlo (24.48).

Based on handicap times, Jason Wood (28.08), took out the maximum points, followed by Kenleigh Duve (25.05), Lisa Luckie (21.41), Nick MacCredie (19.43), and Anne Johnson (24.44).

As this was the last of the Winter Championship races, I have the privilege to announce that new comer Brad Bourne has won this year’s trophy. His final score was 931. Second, third and fourth place was separated by one point. In second place was last year’s winner, Steve McLeod (913), followed by new comer Lisa Luckie (912) and in fourth was another new comer, Anne Johnson (911). Rounding off fifth place was Bianca Craddock (887). What a great result, and what a tight race it was. Final results have been posted up in the Clubrooms, so every runner can see how well they placed each championship race. Now it is time for the Summer Championships, so it will be interesting to see who dominates that.
(The race committee will award trophies to the first 3 male winners, the first 3 females as well as the junior placings).

Fastest runner was John MacKenzie and he ran 17.07. Second was Steve Quirk (17.55), and third fastest was Nick Schilling (18.12).
Amongst the women, Deb Piercy was the fastest. She recorded a time of 20.29. Lauren Isles and Leanne Keating had a great dual behind and fought it out all the way to the line. Their respective times were 21.05 and 21.08. The competition amongst the women is becoming more intriguing each week and the incentive is there to run as hard as possible and hopefully achieve a personal best.
We welcome a new runner, John Austin and hope he continues to run with the club. Just a gentle reminder that all runners MUST be registered with the club, otherwise you won’t be able to run and won’t be registered on the handicap sheet.
As of next week, all runners will start off from their respective handicap time with the first runners leaving at 6.00pm.
Walkers were: Carol Summersgill, Margaret Salisbury, Carmel Griffiths and Rebecca Robjant.
