Race Report – Clubrooms- TENNIS COURTS
Thursday 30th August 2007

What a gorgeous evening it turned out to be; a real summer’s day! 63 runners and 4 walkers fronted up for the 5km course. These are similar numbers to the last time this course was run, which was only last month. Some great times were recorded and even some good personal bests.

First over the line was a relative new runner, Peter Deguara, who crossed the line in a time of 22.28. Second was Micheal Holt (24.08), in third place was  Rick Mann (24.20), and in fourth place was John Jervis (24.41)
Just a gentle reminder again, that if you are running sub 5 minute km pace you must start with the main group.
Fastest runner of the night was John Mackenzie who ran 16.53. H e has continued to dominant the Thursday night’s races and it is hard to see anyone challenging that. Second fastest was Steve Quirk (17.03), third was Darrel Cross (17.22) and fourth fastest is the ever improving Shane Pettingill (17.35).  Among the women, Sandra Timmer-Arends took the line honours, crossing the line in a time of 20.13. She had a good tussle with Melissa Jones over the first lap, but proved a bit too strong in the second. Melissa has just returned from an overseas trip so it won’t be too long till she gets her speed back. Melissa ran 20.40, followed closely by Lauren Isles, 20.42.  Coming fourth was Leanne Keating (21.09), followed by a new runner, Jo Coombe (21.14).
Looking back at last month’s results at the Tennis Courts, there were a few runners who have run some huge personal bests. Firstly David Griffiths; he ran 20.28 last month and tonight he broke 20 minutes and ran 19.44. Brad Bourne; last month he ran 21.31, and tonight, 20.30. Shane Pettingill last month ran 17.54, and tonight, 17.35. Lastly, Nick Schilling who ran last month 18.56, and ran tonight, 18.07.
Running same courses over a period of time gives you a good indication of how much you have improved and gives you the confidence to continue to train hard and strive for better performances.
We welcome 2 new runners to the club; John Stander (who ran 1 lap), and Jo Coombe.
Walkers were Rebecca Robjant, Margaret Salisbury, Kim Collett and Mick Bridle.
