Race Report – NORTH FIELDS
Thursday 23rd August 2007

It was way back in April when we last raced the North Fields 4.9km course. As it is one of Bruce’s made up courses, I am certainly surprised it hasn’t been run more often. Does that say something about what other race committee members think of the course?

Anyway, 51 runners and 3 walkers turned up to run a very complicated course that had 3 runners getting a tad confused. With only a couple of races to go in this winter series, tonight’s run was a Championships race. The competition has been quite fierce this winter, and in a few weeks time, the eventual winner will be revealed. Peter Deguara (23.19), in his second run took out the maximum points based on his handicap. In second place was Rod Goodwin (22.04), followed by the ever improving Brad Bourne (20.14), then Ryan Incoll (20.15) and in fifth place Kane Jackson (20.17). These three boys were having a great tussle tonight and their times are continuing to impress. A note of interest, there weren’t any women featured in the top eight of the handicap race.

John MacKenzie is the dominating force at the moment and Darrel Cross made some attempt to bridge the gap in tonight’s race. John ran the fastest time of 16.44, followed by Darrel in 17.02, and in third place was Shane Pettingill (17.52). Then there was a quite a distance to fourth and fifth place. Richard Comber is consistently running great times and he had a good dual with Rob Semmler. Their respective times were, 19.03 and 19.09.
With Kathryn still absent, Sandra Timmer-Arends and Deb Piercy are continuing to have great duals, pushing each other to gain some momentum in hope to be more competitive when she returns. They tied for line honours, clocking a time of 20.25. In third place was Lauren Isles (20.47), followed by Leanne Keating (20.58) and Tanya Whitehead (21.55). Leanne was over the moon after her race as she broke 21 minutes. Someone else who improved her time from last April was Erin Schilling. She ran a minute quicker tonight and her consistency with training is starting to pay off.

The three walkers were Carol Summersgill (42.12), Margaret Salsibury (42.12) and Rebecca Robjant. (No time was recorded for her)

It was surprising to see no new runners this week, as we have been consistently having them. Obviously there must not be too many more runners left in the area.
