Race Report – NEWBOROUGH TRACK
Thursday 16th August 2007

Running conditions were ideal for the 39 runners and the 1 conscientious walker who fronted up at the Newborough Track for the 5km Championship race. The track is a useful tool to see how well you are truly running as it is the most accurate course you will ever run on.

Looking at the result sheet, it looks like Greg Semmler and Nick Schilling had a good dual around the track. Greg crossed the line in first place in a time of 18.07, followed by Nick (18.16). Further back was Daniel Sinclair (18.53), followed by Roger Maximiw (19.40) and Neil Griffiths (20.16).

The women’s race was something special to watch as three ladies were keeping each other on their toes, with Jenny Northe setting the pace and leading, up until the final lap. Then it was anybody’s race for line honours. Bianca Craddock had the extra leg speed to pass Jenny and then Lisa Luckie went by to leave Jenny in third place. Their respective times were: Bianca (21.43), Lisa (21.44) and Jenny (21.45). These ladies are coming into some good form and we look forward to other good duals in the coming months.

Since this was a Championships race, Michael Beeck (21.28) took out the maximum points based on his handicap. Michael had been off injured for awhile and it is good to see his times improving. Second was John Jervis (24.36) and in third place was Ros Matheson (26.39). Roger, Bianca and Lisa round up the top 6 places.

The sole walker was Carol Summersgill who walked the 12.5 laps in a time of 41.40.

Four new runners turned up at the track and they were: Rod Goodwin, Peter Deguara, Chris O’Brien and Steve Zyhajlo. We welcome them and hope they come along on future Thursday night runs.
