Race Report – LIDDIARD RD P.S
Thursday 9th August 2007

With gale force winds and the possibility of more rain, 59 runners and 5 walkers turned up at Liddiard Rd P.S to contest the 6.02km Championship race that consisted of 2 laps.  These numbers are just ridiculous, considering what the weather was like. It is obvious that everyone is just keen to race and the summer competition looks to become a cracker. Who knows what the numbers will be like when the weather starts to improve?

First over the line was Tania Whitehead (29.36), followed by Donna Marino (30.08), and in third place was Chris Johnson (30.50).

At the onset of the race John MacKenzie went straight to the front and no-one was anywhere near him. He blew the field away and came over the line in a terrific time of 20.42.  Not only did he get the fastest time, but he came in 4th overall. It is unusual for the main race to feature in the top 5 positions. Second fastest was Shane Pettingill who ran 22.05 and in third place was Darrel Cross 22.29.

With Kathryn away in the Ukraine and then traveling afterwards for the next 7 weeks, it gives the opportunity for the oldies and the young ones to fight it out for line honours in the women’s race. Hopefully by the time she gets back she won’t be as fit as she was when she left and then some real good racing can start. (That’s just wishful thinking) Anyway over the first lap, Sandra Timmer-Arends and Deb Piercy were pushing each other, with Deb making Sandra take the lead the whole way. Unfortunately, Deb had to make a toilet stop and Sandra had to battle the winds by herself around the second lap.  So Sandra took line honours in a time of 25.25, followed by Lauren Isles (26.05) and in third place Janette Brady (26.18). Janette should be proud of her efforts as she ran a quicker time compared to last month when she ran 27.21. It is interesting to note that the last time we ran this course, the conditions were ideal.
Walkers were Rebecca Robjant, Bill and Gillian Vander Brand, Margaret Salisbury and Natalie Comber.
