Race Report – Clubrooms- TENNIS COURTS

Who would have imagined that a couple of weeks ago, our Tennis Court course was under water from the flash floods? Well tonight’s run was perfect; no wind and ideal running conditions. With record numbers; 65 runners and 5 walkers to be precise, many runners had good tussles, pushing themselves to some fast times on the 5km course.

First over the line was a new runner, Jason Chambers who crossed in a time of 24.26. Second was Donna Marino (24.49), and in third place was John Jervis (25.06).
The handicapper has had to re-handicap 6 runners. They were Nathan Dennis, Ian Heafield, Nick MacCredie, Sam Quirk, Matt Wendall and Rick Mann. Based on their handicap time, they placed in their respective positions. However, no points were awarded as this was not a Championship race.
It would have been great to see the finish, as three runners were battling it out for line honours. Fastest runner was young Sam Quirk who ran 16.54. Sam has been selected in the Victorian Cross Country team that will be competing in Perth in September. Steve Quirk followed a close second in a time of 16.57, followed by Darrel Cross 16.59.  Just an interesting note, their times were much quicker to that of when they raced last month on the same course. It is great see some serious competition developing amongst the men and let see how they go next Saturday at the Sandown relays. Among the women, Kathryn once again dominated the race. She was running along side Shane Pettingill, Adam Conway and John MacKenzie who pushed her all the way to run an awesome time of 18.11. Behind them, was a great tussle going on between Deb Piercy and Sandra Timmer-Arends. Pushing each other saw Sandra (20.25) take out second place and Deb (20.36) taking out third place.
