Race Report – LIDDIARD RD P.S
Thursday 5th July 2007
With ideal conditions for running, 56 runners and 6 walkers turned up at Liddiard Rd P.S to contest the 6.02km Championship race that consisted of 2 laps.
This week’s Championship race saw Robert Watson (29.10) take out the maximum points. This must be a huge p.b as he won outright on handicap by 3mins and 7 secs. Second was Ian Duncan (28.33), followed by Yani Cornthwaite (30.41). In fourth place was Tim Northe (23.43), in fifth was Keith Tomholt (22.54) and coming in sixth was Matt Weddell (29.00). It is good to see different runners take out the top 6 places each week; which means the handicapper must be doing a good job. The Championships tally board is still seeing Jenny Northe (786) on top, followed by Steve McLeod (728) who is closing in. Moving back into the third is Paula Lucas (699), closely followed by Todd Houghton (682). Mick Bridle has made a steady move up the tally board and is now placed fifth (658). Slipping down to sixth is Brad Bourne (652) and coming seventh is Bianca Craddock (636); in eighth is Daniel Sinclair (634); in ninth Anna Johnson (624) and in tenth place is Anna Cardillo (621).
At the onset of the race John MacKenzie and Ian Cornthwaite raced to the front of the pack and had a good tussle, until John made his move and ran the fastest time of (20.42). Ian couldn’t maintain the pace and Darrel passed him and crossed the line in second place, recording a time of 20.52. In third place was Ian in a time of 22.47. It is good see John back in the fold and hopefully will stay injury free and give the other men someone to chase. With some of the girls taking it easy due to racing in Bendigo on the weekend, Rachel Massaro emerged as the fastest and dominating the women’s race by recording a time of 26.23. In second place was the ever consistent Jenny North (26.48), followed by a new runner, Jeanette Brady (27.21). Jeanette’s husband Murray has been running with us for awhile so it is good to see her coming along.
We welcome again another 3 new runners: Kenleigh Duve, Kirstie Underwood and Jeanette Brady. It is great to see new faces especially during the winter months.
Walkers were Rebecca Rosack, Bill and Gillian Vander Brand, Trevor Renolds, Margaret Salisbury and David Griffths.
