Some Outstanding times at Newborough Track.

It was great to see so many runners test themselves on the Newborough Track last Thursday night. It is one place you can be sure it is exactly 5km and it gives you a great idea on how you are running. The females continue to be the exciting performers in the club with Deb Piercy and Courtney French breaking 20 minutes. Lauren Isles broke 21 minutes and Leanne Keating 22 minutes. Bianca Craddock in what must be her first 5km on the track just missed breaking 22 minutes, Kim Essex and Jenny Northe also went under 23 minutes. A big effort also by Jenny considering she has only just got back into running. The run by Anna Cardillo must also be a big P/B for her and it is great to see someone who brings a lot of sparkle to the club continues to improve. Carmel Quirk and Andrea Henderson were consistent and Paula Lucas continues to work closer to the 25 minute barrier. It will be a big effort and an outstanding achievement when she gets there. Also Paula’s friend Kate Huczer did well for her first run with the club and we all welcome her. Why am I so excited by the efforts of our females mainly because once upon a time we would have about three roll up to the track and 22:30 would be the best time. Because of the great work by Deb Piercy and Sandra Timmer-Arends we have a lot of class amongst our females. Keep the good work up girls and look after each other. In the men we had 9 runners break 20 minutes with Steve and Sam Quirk the standouts. Rumour has it that Sam was out to beat Steve and Steve had to work hard at the end. It was a P/B on the track for Sam. Richard Clavarino and Shinichi Taniguchi also ran P/B’s with Keith Tomholt outstanding with limited training. Russel Northe, Michael Beeck and Dave French were big improvers.
