Championship points were there for the taking in the 5.88km run at Clarkes Road. With the weather cooling down in the pines, 65 runners and 5 walkers tackled the undulating course with a 1.3km uphill to the finish. First to cross the line in a time of 27.10 was new runner, Brian Burleigh. Finishing strongly in second place was Paula Lucas (29.52), followed by Barry Summersgill (28.37) and Rohan Eagle (36.08). Paula’s hill reps are certainly paying off and it was great to see Barry turning up for a run and finishing second. He certainly picked a good night to feature in the top three. Paula took out the maximum points this week and will be heavily rehandicapped. Unfortunately for Jane McCristal, she is unable to receive the next lot of points as she has not yet registered with the club. So Paula’s better half, Shane Pettingill (21.56) took out third, followed by Sue Elsdon (28.08) and Lauren Isles (25.48).

With quite a few members traveling up to Bright to tackle Four Peaks, some decided to cruise around, fine tuning their final preparations before setting upon what will certainly be a grueling four days. Shane recorded the fastest time, followed by Morgan Tucker (22.50), Darrel Cross (23.10), Daniel Sinclair (23.39) and Roger Maximuw (23.57). After a few months absence, Morgan clearly showed he hasn’t lost his love of hills. Melissa Jones was the fastest female, recording a time of (25.14), followed Lauren Isles and Deb Piercy (26.06).
We welcome another 6 new runners, Brian Burleigh, Rohan Eagle, Morgan Tucker, Matt Jones, Cameron Graham and Donna O’Callaghan. Obviously more runners are being encouraged by others to come along and try out running courses with the Harriers and hopefully they continue to front up in the weeks to come.
A reminder again that all runners MUST be registered with the club; otherwise you will miss out on obtaining championship points and therefore not being eligible to become the Summer Champion.
Walkers were: Margaret Salisbury, Carol Summersgill, Jennny Comber, Gillian and Bill Vander Brand and Rebecca Robjant
