48 runners and 6 walkers headed out to Churchill to run 5kms which consisted of 2 laps around Lake Hyland. This run was the first of the Summer Championships and based on the results of tonight’s run and their respective handicap times, Kevin Piercy took out the maximum points. He ran a time of 20.26. Kev has continued to improve his times considering he just completed an adventure event and has had problems with his knee. Second to Kev was David Griffiths (20.28), followed by, Richard Comber (19.32), Darrell Cross (17.35) and Steve McLeod (20.28). Steve is in his final preparations for the New York marathon held in early November. He has struggled with injury but is determined to do as much training as possible before heading off overseas
Fastest runner was Darrell Cross, followed by Shane Pettingill (18.07), Adam Conway (18.42), Ian Cornthwaite (18.46) and Greg Semmler (19.14). It is great to see Ian back running with the Harriers as he has been an icon for so many years. Well it looks like Kathryn Ewels hasn’t lost any form while being away overseas. She should be congratulated on her efforts in the Ukraine and we welcome her back. Kathryn was the fastest female, recording a time of 19.50. Following her were Deb Piercy (21.25), Melissa Jones (21.26), Lauren Isles (21.51) and Rachel Massaro (22.18).
We welcome 1 new runner, Leigh Petersen. A reminder again that all runners MUST be registered with the club, otherwise you won’t be able to run and won’t be registered on the handicap sheet.
Walkers were: Margaret Salisbury, Natalie Comber, Bill and Gillian Vander Brand, Carmel Griffiths and Rebecca Robjant.
