Summer Series 2005/06 Race 18

Many Harriers make a return to running at Traralgon South.
    Amongst the 40 odd runners and walkers who raced on Thursday the 9th of February were many familiar old faces. Nicole Harriss (Nee Nicole Morrison) who was married to Warren Harriss the weekend before made a welcome return. Although she says hasn’t done much running recently she still showed good form. Georgia Shaw also made a welcome visit after moving to Melbourne recently. Junior Shannon McCurley also made a return after injury recording the third fastest female time on the night. Shannon was one of the many Harrier juniors who preformed well at the regional little athletic championships recently. Hayden Maximiw, Jesse Maximiw and Tanya Eagle all joined Shannon in winning Gold medals.
     Two young runners in Andrew Nicolson and Brad McAuliffe had outstanding runs to be first and second across then line on handicap. Duncan Orr another big improver was third with Derek Evans starting to hit his straps again not far away. Older runners to put in good runs were Chester Goulter, Barry Higgins and David Griffiths. New runner Seona Conway had one of her best runs since joining the club. Fastest female was Sandra Timmer-Arends who is in heavy training for the Canberra marathon. Second fastest was another new runner in Cindy Nielsen who is close to breaking the 20-minute barrier for 5km.
      Fastest male was another runner on the comeback dual Traralgon Marathon winner John MacKenzie. Second fastest male runner was Matthew Franke followed by Kevin Piercy. Kevin Piercy is in training for another adventure race where competitors don’t sleep for days and traverse and navigate a difficult course by running, hiking, paddling and cycling etc in teams.
