Local Traralgon Harrier John MacKenzie beat an impressive field of 50 starters
at the recent Traralgon Marathon. Of the 48 finishers 11 went under the
3-hour mark adding class to the event. John who has only been competing
for 18 months completely blitzed the rest of the field led by Nigel Aylott
and Murray Johnson. Running mostly on his own he set a new personal
PB of 2:33:51. In the female section Rachel Stewart had to overcome
limited preparation caused by a stress fracture suffered 9 weeks prior to
beat Malia Edwards and Pam Jonas. 77 year old George Halliday was
another highlight finishing the event in under 5 hours. In the Half Marathon
Steve Gilbert and Ian Cornthwaite had a close tussle as did Jodie Healey
and Sandra Timmer-Arends in the female section. 83 competitors competed
in the Half and 43 in the Quarter where Mike Wheatley was the winning
male and Susi Wilson the winning female.
