For four years the La Trobe City Shire has sponsored our Community
Fun Run held every March. The concept of the event is to introduce
running to families at a low cost in a low key event. The success
of the event can be measured by the athletic development of Peta
and Matthew Mullens. Both ran our fun run 4 years ago and then became
members of our club. As with all juniors proceeds from the fun run
are used to sponsor our Juniors
Athletic Victoria membership cost. With this encouragement both
have competed successfully at all levels of competition. Peta this
year alone set Victorian age group records, won Australian and Victorian
titles represented Victoria and qualified to represent Australia
at the World Mountain Running championships in Austria. The list
of her achievements is large and we can thank our fun run for introducing
her to us. Matthew was also rewarded this year with placing’s
in Victorian Championship events and the honour of representing
Victoria at the National Cross-Country
Championships. Our number of juniors have grown considerable and
with the addition of including University Students into the group
that our club feels needs to be encourage to stay in the sport.
