Tim Cochrane and Sandra Timmer-Arends win 39th Traralgon Marathons Sunday 18th June 2006.

   25 year old Tim Cochrane who started his running career as a junior with the Harriers has won the 39th Annual Traralgon Marathon. Tim now a doctor stationed in Mildura at the moment flew down to run the event. Tim was never headed and ran comfortably to win in a time of 2:46:37. Warragul resident Daniel Smith ran well to finish second in 2:51:36. Third male home was Melbourne runner Michael Johannes who ran 2:57:28. Conditions were perfect for the 48 runners who started in the Marathon event with many runners recording P/B’s. Sandra Timmer-Arends cemented her place in history with a historic 4th win in the female event. She now joins another Traralgon Harrier Morgan Tucker who is a 4 times male winner as the most prolific winners of the event. Second female home was Kryssi Marriot running her first Marathon to record 3:27:22. Third place getter Georgia McKenzie was also running her first Marathon and ran 3:30:59. Other highlights were local T.V. reporter Brooke Van Nooten also running her first Marathon recording 3:40:54. Morwell resident Ian Newnham ran his 20th Traralgon Marathon while walker 63 years old Brian Glover finished his 72nd Marathon. Our Japanese club member Shinichi Taniguchi ran a big P/B of 3:11:10.
    In the half marathon talented Peninsular Road runner Dale Locke ran 1:18:20 to win from Upwey’s Glenn Touriner 1:21:19 and Warragul resident Damien Smith who ran 1:22:39 to finish 3rd. Morwell resident Linda McRae 1:29:50 won the female half from Shepparton’s Deanne Nobbs 1:34:33 and Anita Schwarzbauer was third in 1:35:36. Harrier juniors Luke and Matthew McKendry ran P/B’s with Luke winning the under 18 Males. Lauren Isles running her first half recorded the good time of 1:39:41 to win the under 18 females. Other harriers to run P/B’s were Marcus Onken, Stephen Mcleod, Andrea Henderson and Paula Lucas. Anna Cardillo also ran her first half recording the good time of 1:49:17. There were 71 runner sin the half marathon.
    In the quarter marathon harrier Steve Quirk won from Chris Joustra and another harrier Daniel Rake. In the females we had former Mirboo North resident and the winner of the recent Great Ocean Road International Marathon Nadelle Legge win from promising club junior Courtney French. 14 year old Courtney was 2nd outright female as well as winning the under 16 section. Third female to finish was Jackie England who also won the 40-49 female section. One of the clubs oldest members 74 year old Mick Bridle won the 60+ male section and finished 39th out of the 57 finishers. The club would like to thank all the runners who participated as well as its main sponsors International Power Hazelwood and Transfield Services. Memberships

Current Season memberships (April 1st 2006 until March 31st 2007) are now due and should be paid as soon as possible. All financial members will be issued with two membership cards. One from Athletics Victoria outlining the type of membership you have joined (Athlete or Associate). And a Traralgon Harrier Membership card entitling you to 15% discount from La Porchetta’s in Traralgon.
