Are you wearing light coloured clothing.
Important Notices:
- Running Home after run: If people are running home during a run could they let someone know so people aren't looking for them.
- Keep Hydrated: could people bring their own water bottle/drinks to out of town runs because it will not be supplied and drinking water on hot nights is very important.
- Important reminder to all runners with winter here and the night's dark please wear white or reflective clothing. It cannot be that hard to read this and follow the direction. 41st Traralgon Marathon Chocolate Drive Spot Prize Fundraiser.
In what proved a huge success last year as well as being a great idea Jen has organised a chocolate drive again for this years Marathon. The idea being that money raised is used to buy spot prizes for the Marathon instead of going around hassling businesses for donations. If everyone in the club sold just one box which is not hard to do, then we will have a magnificent range of spot prizes available to give to all the participants at this years Marathon.
7th Annual Walhalla Wound-up
In perfect weather conditions a field of over 71 runners turned out to contest the three events on offer. Although the weather was perfect runners had to contend with many trees across the walking track early in the race but this did not perturb the runners from running first class times. In the 19km and 50km events the times of the first 10 runners in each of these events were a lot faster than the top 10 in previous years. The main highlight being the return of Bright’s Trout Wayth who broke his course record set last year in the 50km event by 10 minutes. Another highlight was race director’s Bruce Salisbury’s effort to finally become a Walhalla Wally. A Walhalla Wally is someone who has completed five 50km Walhalla Wound-Ups. Bruce has started in all seven but due to some stressful moments as race director failed to complete two of them. Mike Leaney the proprietor of the Star Hotel did a great job starting the event and looking after the runners needs such as hot showers etc. He also provided accommodation packages for the 6 winners across the 3 events. For those who have never been to Walhalla there is no prettier or more peaceful place in Victoria. Its beauty is highlighted this time of year by its valley being in the full colours of autumn. The valley is narrow and is surrounded by steep hills and mountain sides with a small creek running down the centre. It has one main road that follows the creek with all the houses and businesses’ hugging its edge. It is the perfect setting for three great events that take you on a challenging trek through its wilderness areas. Thank you Bruce for having the dream and Mike Leaney for helping him make it happen and to all the friendly people of Walhalla.
19km Event: Saw a class field of 40 runners take to the course led by inaugural Walhalla 50km winner John MacKenzie out to claim the course record. The trees would have hampered his efforts but it turned out to be a great race between himself and the current course record holder Bert Pelgrim. John missed the record by just over a minute. 8 runners ran under 1:30 which is a great effort. Two harriers Chris Joustra and Shane Pettingill had a great tussle for 3rd and 4th placing’s. First female was again June Petrie who is the female course record holder and now a three time race winner. Of the local female runners Lisa Luckie knocked nearly three minutes of last years time to be second female and the first harrier female home. In the open females Cairen Hunter in her first race over 10km finished just in front of Anna Orr who knocked 2 minutes of her time last year.
37km Event: Was dominated by harriers with five times event winner and course record holder Darrel Cross running down early leader Stewart Elliot to win the race for the 6th time. Having achieved Wally status last year Sandra Timmer-Arends opted to do the 37km event where she beat 4 times event winner and current record holder Robyn Fletcher.
